  • The Poetry Foundation--"The Poetry Foundation, publisher of Poetry magazine, is an independent literary organization committed to a vigorous presence for poetry in our culture. It exists to discover and celebrate the best poetry and to place it before the largest possible audience."
Lessons:
  • Any lesson on the poetry of Robert Frost cannot do without an audio file of the poet reading his own work. Poets.org is an excellent site that features free audio files of many poets, including Sylvia Plath, Dylan Thomas, and others. The readings play quickly and easily over the Smart Board (if you have sound).
Files:
  • In grade 12 English, I begin the Poetry unit with a PowerPoint that introduces various aspects of the genre during the 20th century, with discussion of history, art, and a brief description of the major schools of poetry, including Modernism, War poetry, Beat poetry, African American poetry, Feminist viewpoints, etc. I welcome other teachers to view this file and provide feedback for improvement at allison.timmins@dsb1.edu.on.ca.
